Since there are only a few races to talk about this weekend, I spend the majority of the podcast talking about my training and the importance of not trying to catch up on missed runs when you need some extra recovery. Runners like to think they’re invincible and that the an injury is a insignificant glitch that can easily be shaken off. However, sometimes it’s not and you need to take care of your body before you run it into the ground.
A bit longer running podcast than normal. I go quite a bit into the benefits of pacing properly and doing smaller races (5K and 10K) to prepare oneself mentally for larger races (half and full marathons). I also go over the races for this weekend. For the full list and links to the registration pages for each race, continue reading past the break.
I apologize tor the podcast not going up in time. I don’t know if it’s due to overtraining or the amount of writing I’ve been doing this past week (or both) but I was completely exhausted the last couple of days. Therefore a couple of races may have actually happened by the time this post goes up. I will make sure the podcast goes up on Wednesday like normal next week. Also, for those waiting for it, the Movie Newsletter will be up tomorrow evening. The Video Game Podcast will be up later tonight.
On today’s podcast, I start talking quite a bit about the benefits of cross-training because of an article from iRun Magazine about the benefit of upper-body training. I also give my personal insight on two of the biggest races this weekend in Quebec: the Mont-Tremblant Half Marathon and the Endruance 5K. Keep reading for the entire list of races in the Quebec City-Toronto corridor this weekend.
The website awakens from it’s slumber and starting things off from hibernation is the Weekly Running Podcast. I offer up details about registration for the Ottawa Marathon and the Circuit Endurance as well as a few races coming up over the next two weeks (because there are a few people who think running in arctic temperatures is a grand idea).
Sorry for the late update but this will be the first of three podcasts being uploaded onto the site tonight. There is plenty of races available to those in and around the Montreal region this weekend. Hopefully Mother Nature plays nice as it’s looking to be very hot and there’s also a forecast of thundershowers throughout the Montreal-Ottawa corridor for Sunday. The big race of the weekend is the 20km race in Ste. Anne de Bellevue on Sunday that’s part of the Endurance Greater Montreal Running Circuit. This is the racing series that I’m normally a part of and it is one of the most beautiful races you’ll find on the island of Montreal. Even if you’re not a major long-distance runner, there are 5km and 10km distances available. If you only run a few races this year and you’re nearby, you really need to check this one out.
This is the first (of hopefully many) Weekly Running podcasts on the website. The podcast covers the racing scene around Montreal so if you’re interested in knowing about the races around the area, there’s plenty of info on this podcast as well as other information like shoe specials. Please send me your comments or suggests via the website or e-mail as I really want to make this a great podcast. Hopefully I’ll be able to arrange for some guests to come on soon and offer training advice to runners and other interesting stuff relevant to running.
